Stephen Hodge
Stephen Hodge is the Director - National Advocacy for cycling lobby group We Ride Australia.
In the corridors of power in Australia’s Federal Parliament, Stephen is the only professional lobbying focused purely on advocating for cycling.
Elected members in Federal Parliament decide how to spend an annual budget that now exceeds half a trillion dollars. They enact laws and make policy decisions that affect every aspect of Australians' lives, including how we move around.
With Stephen at the helm for cycling advocacy, it's a case of quality over quality in the quest to protect the interests of cyclists and micromobility.
He brings a mountain of experience and expertise as a past elite road cycling competitor and, more recently, as a high-level advocate.
As a competitor, Stephen was one of Australia’s top professional road cyclists, finishing 14 Grand Tours including six Tours de France, as well as riding for Australia at the Olympics, Commonwealth Games and 10 World Championships.
Returning to live in Australia after 13 years as a Europe-based professional cyclist, Stephen gradually became more interested and involved in cycling advocacy.
Although his ‘second cycling career’ might not be quite so glamorous and high profile as the first, it’s possibly even more stellar and important.
