Andy Salkeld

Andy Salkeld has 30 years' experience in Local Government, with a focus on innovation and people-friendly strategies for the city.

His projects and responsibilities cover traffic management, casualty reduction, traffic calming, safer routes to school, local safety schemes, traffic impact assessment, cycling strategy, bike share, street design and active travel.

He currently works for Leicester City Council, representing the council on all aspects of cycling development: traffic management, casualty reduction, traffic calming, safer routes to school, local safety schemes, traffic impact assessment, cycling strategy, bike share, street design and active travel. His roles include leading the Santander Cycles Leicester project, project – the UK’s largest, all-electric, docked e-bike share system.

Andy has organised numerous active transport conferences in the UK and is a regular speaker micromobility conferences around the world.

He established the Cycle City Action Plan supported by more than 40 organisations and led on Infrastructure, Promotions, Training and Engagement.

Andy has overseen continuous growth in everyday cycling numbers (10-15% per annum) since 2006. His focus is to initiate and establish development work with partners including British Cycling, Leicester City Football Club, De Montfort University, clubs, advocate groups and other stakeholders organisations to deliver change for pro-cycling, active travel and liveable cities.
